Just a Quick Update

I survived summer programs 2011! Yay! With the exception of my long commutes and the day I spent last week checking hair for lice (yes, it was as fun as you are imagining), it was a pretty easy summer work wise. Thank goodness! With this heat that just won't stop and my extremely fast and boisterous almost 2 year old, I needed a summer that went smoothly!

On the home front, Noelle loves sleeping in her big girl bed. Well, at night she loves sleeping in it! Last night was my first night putting her to bed by myself since the switch a week ago, and after she "read" me and her baby two stories (Go Dogs Go, and another one that she decided was Snuggle Puppy but wasn't) she put the books away, prayed with me, and got right in to bed. After I kissed her she told me to leave and sleep tight and I didn't hear another peep from her room. Success! Now, nap time is another story. Unless we put her in the bed already asleep (thank goodness she still transfers successfully from the car to naps 90% of the time), she assumes naps are unnecessary and that if they absolutely must happen, they must occur in our bed. This makes chores that could be done while she is asleep unsuccessful, particularly laundry since our washer and dryer are in our bathroom, but at least it gives me an excuse to rest while she naps!

Alien's clothes are sorted by size and his crib is ready with a new mattress. Over Labor Day weekend I plan on doing lots of baby laundry and finding and cleaning bottles and newborn accessories. We are going to install the car seats in mid-September and then we should be just about ready to go. I had an ultrasound for the fetal study yesterday and he is now head down! And as of my last midwife appointment 2 weeks ago, he was measuring about 2 weeks ahead size-wise. They think he'll probably come a few days before my due date and that we are looking at a 9-pounder based on the fact that he is my 2nd and a boy and Noelle was over 8 pounds. While I don't look forward to pushing him out at that size, we do look forward to having another good sized baby. I'm not sure we'd know what to do with a 6 pounder!

Bryan is doing well too. Work has slowed down a bit and he has been hard at work on our first floor bathroom. I told him it is slightly inconvenient for a pregnant woman to have to run upstairs every 5 seconds to pee, but he remains unsympathetic as he retorts that we didn't have a first floor bathroom in the townhouse when I was pregnant with Noelle. But the room is totally torn apart, he has done a ton of patching and sanding of the walls since they were in horrible shape, and put a new sub-floor in. The trim, door, and ceiling are painted and we hope the walls will be done this week. That just leaves the floor and installation of the new vanity, light fixture, and old toilet which should all be pretty quick. Bryan is also doing well at work. He was selected to be a firm representative with a large network of international law firms. This is definitely an honor but means he will be in Maine for 2 days in late September. Let's hope that Alien waits til October to arrive! We are also relieved that his softball season is over as it means that his chance of breaking a bone has signifcantly diminished for 2011, and that we see him more often in the evenings!

So that is the current report. Our next post will be pictures from the beach! We are hoping my parents new puppy doesn't eat Noelle and Maddie for breakfast while we are there!
