Fall Festival

The Saturday after we got back from Disney we spent the early evening with some friends from my moms' group eating pizza, parading around in costumes, and watching the kids try really hard to get candy out of a pinata. It was a gorgeous day and it was great to chat, munch, and watch the kids have a great time. Since Halloween isn't looking so promising I am so glad that Snow White and my little monkey got to play here!

Disney Day Six: Now It's Time to Say Goodbye!

Friday morning Animal Kingdom was open early again for resort guests so we checked in for our flights and checked our baggage (such a wonderful perk of Disney resorts!) and caught the bus over to spend one last morning together! On the must-do list for the day: one last safari ride, Expedition Everest, and another viewing of the Festival of the Lion King. The Hayhoes had to be back at the hotel by 1 for their bus back to the airport so we did as much as we could that morning!

In addition to our must-do's we had a little extra time so B and I hit Everest an extra time (and even got to ride in the front), Noelle and Kellen hit the Boneyard play area and rode on the Triceratops again, and we saw some of my favorite friends, Pooh, Eeyore, and Tigger! Kellen was even ok with the characters as long as Daddy acted as a barrier between them!

We all got together for the last time to watch the Festival of the Lion King and then it was time to say our goodbyes to the Hayhoe crew. It was a fun adventure together! Our fun wasn't quite done as we had a later flight. So the Saxton crew journeyed over to the Magic Kingdom for our last few hours.

We knew it was supposed to be more crowded Friday then the rest of the week. The crowds at Magic Kingdom were absolutely crazy! Apparently the local schools were out and everyone and their mother were at the park. Of course our daughter wanted to meet princesses. And the line to meet them was 90 minutes with fastpass return times being 10 minutes after we had to be gone. We even had to wait almost 30 minutes to get on a monorail! Thankfully the line for the new Belle show was posted at 50 minutes, longer than we had waited for anything all week but doable. 27 minutes later Noelle and I got in and she was able to be in the show (she was a picture frame) to meet Belle. As Belle was leaving at the end, my adorable daughter yelled out, "Belle, yellow is my favorite color!" Belle turned around and kneeled down to tell her yellow was her favorite too. Success! Lady who played Belle, you don't even know how happy you made my little three year old. Or how happy you made her mommy who really was not excited to stand in line 90 minutes for a 3 second meet and greet!

After we saw Belle, we met Bryan and Kellen and got a yummy spicy chicken waffle sandwich and then let Noelle make her souvenir selection. She had spent the week telling us what she wanted (pretty much everything!) and we had played up for two months that she had a gift card from her birthday that she could use to buy what she wanted but that she only had $25. Her selection: a pink umbrella they paint-penned with her name, flowers, hearts, and princess Belle. This was actually the very first thing she had wanted and while it was a rip off and will probably break by the end of the year, she was so happy to get her umbrella and twirls it around constantly. Going the gift card route and telling her she could only spend what was on her card was great! Besides that, I bought two Christmas ornaments - one for us and one for Ms. Rose, and otherwise we came home souvenir free. The Saxton's love Disney so much that we don't need to spend our money on mementos - we know we'll be back soon!

After shopping we rode the Disney railroad and watched the afternoon parade. After the parade it was time to leave the parks and head back to the hotel. There, we decided to split a signature Elvis cupcake while we waited (peanut butter, chocolate, banana, and bacon) and give the kids some dinner before heading outside to get on the bus. The cast member outside by the bus area played with Noelle and made her day when she asked her who her favorite princess was and then magically presented her with a miniature plastic Belle figurine to take home. Again, thanks for making my little girl's last day magical Disney staff!

Our flight was a little delayed but the kids ran around the airport so much that they were exhausted when we got on the plane. Noelle was asleep before take off and Kellen ate during take off and was asleep before we were cruising! A perfect end to the magic since I couldn't imagine wrangling two grumpy and tired kids for two hours! We made it home around 11 and Maddie was already there waiting for us, happy from her vacation playing with Georgia.

So that's our trip! We had an absolutely fabulous time and can't wait to do it again! 2014 here we come!

Disney Day Five: Last Full Day!

On Thursday morning we hit the other waterpark at Disney, Typhoon Lagoon. We had the bus almost to ourselves on the way over there, and then explored a bit when we arrived while we waited for the park to open!

Then we found some chairs in the sand by the wave pool and the small tidal splash pool. Bryan took Noelle to check out the kid slides, my mom and I hit the water coaster and snorkeled with the sharks, and my dad and brother watched Kellen as he played in the water. Later we switched things up and Bryan did some slides while my mom and I took the kids and then we all hit the lazy river. It was a fun few hours but around lunchtime we headed back as the kids were getting pretty grumpy and tired!

After convincing Noelle she would love to nap in the stroller for the afternoon, we headed over to Epcot to ride some more rides, and enjoy the world showcase and Food and Wine Festival again. On the way we played a few rounds of twister at the hotel!

At Epcot, my dad, B and I rode Mission Space while my mom and brother watched the sleeping kids and did a little shopping. Then we got microbrews and pork sliders and settled in to watch the Scottish band perform while the kids napped. Bryan found our favorite location from previous trips and camped out there for a bit! I decided to take a picture of my babies in their matching napping positions. They sleep like Saxton's!

When the kids woke up we tried to get a few pictures in Canada. Here is the best of the bunch but it would be nice if my smiley daughter would smile for a family picture one of these days!

After picture time, we all went to Mexico to ride the boat ride. Then we got the kids some food and my family fed them and then took them to ride Nemo, check out Turtle Talk with Crush, and play in the aquarium, and Bryan and I headed to the ticketed food tasting we had reserved. There we watched an amazing chef prepare a scallop dish and heard a guy from Chateau St Michelle (probably our favorite winery!) talk about the special Riesling that they were pairing with it. The food and wine was excellent, and while we were significantly younger than everyone else, this was a great event and was really reasonably priced. We would definitely do a food demonstration again (I am still working on B to join the vacation club when the kids are older so we can fly solo during the festival!)

After our tasting we met up and all rode the Land and Imagination rides. We let the kids play a little afterwards in the "Senses Lab" and then outside with the jumping fountains.

Then it was time to finish up the food and wine festival! Bryan and I tasted a few more dishes, had seconds of some of our favorites (Lobster Roll and Sushi!), and settled in to watch the Gin Blossoms, the act for the night. Noelle and I did some dancing and even Kellen got in to the act!

It was great fun and after the concert we headed back to the hotel watching Illuminations as we walked. We had to go get packed up and ready for our last day at Disney!

Kellen's One Year Stats

While we were at Disney we celebrated Kellen's first birthday (See Disney Day Three!). Today he had his one year appointment and he continues to be super cute and sweet. Kellen's official stats:

21 pounds (25%)
29.5 inches (50%)
47 cm head circumference (50-75%)

They are really happy with his weight gain over the last three months as he has pretty much totally recovered from not gaining during his bout with RSV in the spring. Kellen was a sweetheart at the doctor. I like to tell people he is a lover, not a fighter because he will hug absolutely anyone, including the nurse about to give him 4 shots! He did great though, just a little crying and then happy again just a few minutes later! So Kellen left with a clean bill of health and we will go back for one more shot in a few weeks and then back at 18 months. Although let's be real - I'm sure we can't go that long without a visit to our favorite place to spend money so don't worry Pediatric Center, I'm sure we'll visit with one kid if not both before April!

Here's a little more info about Kellen at one. Kellen has seven teeth and is working on number 8. He eats most things, but is slightly more picky then his sister was at this age. Generally fruit and most vegetables are winners and we are about 50-50 on proteins. It really depends on his mood. Kellen has had all foods now except raw honey that we generally eat and has done well with everything except milk. We are exploring whether he has an allergy since he throws his whole milk up a lot of the time. We are used to this (afterall he just outgrew his breastmilk reflux at about 11 months!) but will switch him  to soy milk if it continues. He much prefers water to milk (and like Noelle, we don't do juice with our little man). The doctor is ok with him not drinking much milk as long as he continues to gain weight well. I am also still breastfeeding Kellen before bed and when he wakes up and we are going to wait a few more weeks to wean him while we figure out the milk situation to make sure he is getting the nutrients he needs. K eats three meals and about two snacks a day, drinks several sippies of water and probably a total of 1 sippy of milk each day.

Kellen is a pretty good walker at this point. On even ground he can walk pretty much for an unlimited amount of time. He is still working on uneven ground outside and is just starting to speed up his walking so I am sure he will be running soon. Over the last week Kellen also has mastered standing up without pulling himself up on something. He is a bit weird, as I think most kids do this before walking, but for each his own! Kellen is also becoming a better sleeper. He remains a fairly light sleeper, but these days if he wakes up during the night it is usually around 10 or 11 at night and then he stays down for the rest of the night. His naps at daycare remain inconsistent but I think that is the noise and excitement from the other kids. At home when he can be in his crib he still takes two naps well if time allows and will take one longer afternoon nap and catnap in the car if we are out. He prefers to be in bed by 7:30 if possible and loves bathtime, reading time, and playing before bed with his sister's toys!

Now that Kellen has mastered walking he is talking a lot more than before! His favorite words are definitely momma, dada, and go, but he has a few other repeatable recognizable words (hi, bye, milk, yes, this, up, done, agua.) He points at what he wants and like his sister likes to put things away. He is also a jokester and likes to "run" away with toys when he should be doing something else. He brushes his teeth with water every morning and night and is becoming my independent little guy much of the day. He does still love his mommy though and would probably cuddle with me all day if we had time. It is nice to have a little hugger!

Kel doesn't have a favorite book but loves some of his toys - Scout, his wagon, his shape blocks, Noelle's magnetic building bars, and the bathtub cups. He loves to play with the big kids and their stuff, to dance to any kind of music, and claps all the time. I think we have a future musician on our hands!

It has been an absolutely amazing year watching my baby boy grow into an amazing little toddler and I can't wait to see what is coming up next for him!

Disney Day Four: Wishes!

Our fourth day at Disney started off early again. We headed back to Hollywood Studios for rope drop and I hoped that the park was going to put everyone in a better mood than it had the night before. Things started off well as Minnie Mouse was there to greet my little princess. As she had on her pink Minnie shirt and Minnie backpack she was pretty much in heaven!

After the meeting, we had to wait a few minutes until the park opened. Patience is not Noelle's middle name, but thankfully they had these handy-dandy timeout squares for her to chill in until we were ready to get moving!
We had a short agenda for the park that day. Rock and Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror for B, my mom, and I, and the Muppet 3D Show and Toy Story Mania for all seven of us. After the three rides and show we split up, my parents and brother headed to Epcot, and after playing in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids area (where Kellen got soaked playing with the waterfall!) and eating lunch, Bryan and I took the kids back to the hotel for real naps. All four of us slept a bit and we definitely needed the break!

We had 4:45 reservations at Magic Kingdom for the kids' first haircuts so we headed there after naps and met back up with my family. Confession time: This was not actually Kellen's first haircut. Bryan actually gave him a little trim before the beach in August because his hair was coming over his ears and driving him crazy. And that cut did not go well. You would have thought we were cutting off his fingers and not his hair so I didn't have high hopes for this cut at Disney. Noelle on the other hand was actually getting her first cut ever and was super excited for Mickey's friends to trim it up. Both kids got in their chairs and magic occured! Kellen was my golden child and Noelle acted like the princess she was dressed as! Success! And for those of you looking for the only deal in Disney, get your kids' first cuts at the Harmony Barbershop. $18 including a little satchet that has a lock of hair and Mickey Ears that say My First Haircut. Noelle even got a ponytail with "pixie dust" (AKA obnoxious glitter that made her happy)! Pretty reasonable I think.

After the haircut we took some castle pictures, watched the Dream with Mickey show, grabbed some food. and rode a few rides and saw a show all together - Jungle Cruise, Enchanted Tiki Room, and Pirates of the Caribbean. We then went off in search of the perfect spot to watch the Spectromagic Light Parade and Wishes, the Magic Kingdom's firework show. We ended up at a perfect location for the parade - we had real seats and an excellent view and could enjoy funnel cakes (thus the outfit change before my Snow White ruined her Halloween costume) while we waited!

Waiting for Wishes we were told by an employee our seats wouldn't allow us to see all of the fireworks but we decided to stay put anyways so that we could see Tinkerbell fly and remain sitting. Kellen had fallen asleep by then and Noelle had been talking about fireworks and Tinkerbell for hours (I am pretty sure she is still a little bitter we didn't wake her up on July 4th for fireworks!) We watched part of the show and then decided to move towards Fantasyland and some more rides since the crowds seemed low. The fireworks were beautiful (and loud!) as we walked around the park. Noelle and I rode Peter Pan's Flight with no wait (practically a miracle at Disney!), the carousel with Bryan, the new little mermaid ride with my family, and then my mom and I took Noelle to see the new Enchanted Tales with Belle show. At this point it was close to 10 pm, everyone else in our group headed home, but she was still awake and insistent we see Belle.

I had seen online that the new show was cool but that if you wanted to meet Belle you had to be in it. So I asked Noelle if she wanted to be in it and got a resounding no! Thankfully, my mother was selected to play a role (and she did a marvelous job) so was able to meet Belle and get the special bookmark for visiting "the castle." Noelle was excited to receive my mom's bookmark, however, when I asked her afterward if she liked the very cute show, she told me it was good but that it was absolutely terrible she had not met Belle. Tired, whinny Noelle appeared and I carried her from Fantasyland out of Magic Kingdom and on to the bus. On the bus no one seated took pity on me as I attempted to hold my 36 pound daughter for the 17 minute drive back to our resort. When we arrived back my brother was nice enough to meet us at the bus stop to carry my now sleeping daughter back to our room. I am pretty sure my arm would have fallen off if I had held/carried her for one more minute. My left arm muscles are extremely well-developed though!

We were back to the hotel around 11 and with the exception of the "terrible" non-meeting of Belle, the day had gone great. Even though Thursday was our last full day at Disney, we decided to sleep in a little again and hit the other waterpark at 10 when it opened. So off to bed we all went, exhausted from another Magical Day!
