Noelle had her one year doctor's appointment today. It was a bit late due to vacation and start of the school year physicals for everyone else, but we were happy as always to get a first thing Friday morning appointment with Dr. Burke. Noelle wasn't super happy to get measured or weighed (being still isn't really her forte!) but we came home with measurements of exactly 20 pounds and 30 inches. I am pretty sure that she is a bit taller than that, but who can really tell with the way they try to measure babies! These stats put her in the 75% for height and the 30% for weight. She had been about 50% for weight and 90% for height pretty consistently, but now that she runs around all the time she has really thinned out to the perfect size!
Besides her measurements, we reviewed Noelle's other data at the doctor. She currently has 5 teeth (with several more about to cut through), eats 3 meals a day and about 2 snacks, and drinks water and whole milk. I stopped nursing Noelle just before she turned one and she has been doing great with the switch! She also eats pretty much everything (as long as you give her the veggies before the meat or fruit)! Noelle also can say about 10 words - daddy, mom, banana, doggie, book, go, ok, hi, goodbye, and stop. Yup, we thought we'd tell her stop instead of no so we didn't have an 18 month old screaming no to us in the future. Instead it looks like she is going to say stop, stop and giggle as she does it. Oh well! On the sleeping front, Noelle sleeps each night from about 7:30 until about 7 in the morning. She does usually wake up fussy at some point still but can get herself back to sleep most nights so that is a relief! We are currently having less luck with naps. She did well with naps on vacation probably because she was exhausted from the sun, but since we got back she has been trying to fight her afternoon nap. That would be ok if she would postpone and lengthen the morning nap but so far that one is a no go.
So as you can tell we think our little one is thriving and the doctor seems to agree. We did end the appt with 4 shots which weren't Noelle's favorite part of the visit, but she handled them like a champ and stopped screaming as soon as we left the room. We don't go back to the doctor til she is 18 months and we look forward to seeing what our little one is up to then!

365 Days Later
On Monday, Noelle turned one year old. That was the fastest 365 days I've ever experienced, that's for sure! We thought Bryan wouldn't be able to join us until the day after her birthday because of some work related stuff. Luckily for us, B was able to catch an earlier flight and get down to celebrate the end of Noelle's first year with us! After a great family dinner, Noelle opened up her birthday presents and talked to her Grandma Evans on the phone.

Noelle's great grandmother Reed sent her this

Noelle's new alphabet pal

I'm a little too small for me new tricycle, Uncle Mikey, but it will be super fun in a few months!

I also got lots of clothes
Since we only got to spend about an hour together as a family on Noelle's birthday, we decided to wait for Noelle's special treat. This was mostly because we have only given Noelle treats two times in the past, and in both cases, she was off the walls for the rest of the day. So later in the week, we had Noelle's birthday celebration, part 2. If you have seen us in the past two months, you know that Noelle's favorite thing ever is her Personal Penguin book. She loves the story, and loves the song that goes with it even more. So my mom and I decided to make penguin cupcakes for her birthday. Here is the finished work of art!

Noelle really enjoyed her cupcake adventure!

It is so hard to believe that in just one year Noelle has turned into a little person that walks and talks and laughs and cries and has so much personality. We are so blessed to have her in our life and we have loved every minute of the first year with our little blessing!

OBX
Ms. Rose, Noelle's daycare provider, had off the 2nd week of August for her vacation, so after a brief visit to the office Monday to take care of a few loose ends, Noelle, Maddie, and I headed down to the OBX for an almost two week vacation. First, I can't say enough about traveling in the evening. We left a little after 7, just a bit before Noelle usually goes to bed. After chatting in her carseat until about 8:15, she fell asleep for the rest of the trip, allowing us to make record time to the beach, just under 5 hours. It helps that we don't have to stop for feedings anymore! After playing for a short time when we got here around midnight, Noelle went right to bed in the crib and Maddie and I got tucked in too!
Tuesday morning my best friend, Catherine, joined us, as did my Uncle Rick. We spent the next few days at the pool, by the beach, and eating lots of yummy food! Noelle loves the water, thinks waves are hilarious, and even seems to enjoy walking in the sand. We have been lucky that she has taken her naps and slept well since we arrived. Honestly, she is so exhausting when she is awake, running around and climbing all over things and dogs, that without nap time I'd be a mess! Catherine and Uncle Rick stayed til Friday when they both had to head home. We then spent a quiet Hayhoe filled weekend while waiting for B's arrival and Noelle's big birthday! Here are some pictures of the first few days of our trip!

July 4th
Yes, it is more than a month since the 4th but we are doing our best here! I just made it through summer 10 (6 full-time with our CTY summer programs!), and while the day sites are slightly less time consuming, driving to Alexandria, VA and back all the time took quite a tool on our social time. But now we are back and about to head on vacation. But first, here are some July 4th weekend pictures.
As we said in our last update, Bryan's brother, Kevin, his wife, Tracie, and their adorable little girl, Rubie, flew home with us from our Missouri family gathering to spend some time in MD. Kevin had never been to DC, and Tracid hadn't been in years, so first we spent one awesome but super hot day downtown. We did the monuments and the American History Museum. Here are some pics!

Dad and Ellie at the museum

Noelle has decided that the Inventions at Play exhibit is less exciting then wrestling her cousin to the floor!

Exhausted after a long, hot day!

The Washington Monument (can't you tell?)
On July 4th, after the girls took a world record length nap, we headed down to Annapolis for the day. We stopped at the Firefighter's/EMT Memorial (which was cool since Kevin is an EMT), the Naval Academy, and then went downtown before watching the July 4th parade. I use the term parade loosely since it was pretty much 6th rate political candidates poorly organized marching down the road. But we had fun anyways!

Mommy and Ellie listening to music on the docks

Noelle and Rubie get in to the American Spirit!

WPB Saxton's
We loved having the Florida Saxton's and wish they lived closer! Here is one more picture of the girl's together in their matching outfits!

Playing in Noelle's room
After July 4th, we had a super quick visit from the Hayhoe's (here is one very cute picture of Ellie with grandpa)

Noelle reads to Grandpa
Besides that it has been the same old stuff! We'll report soon on Noelle's birthday and our vacation at the beach!

Family photo. Yes, the cast is still with us!
