Today my baby boy is 8 months and my big girl is 34 months old. I love that my little people were both born on Sunday, the 16th - it makes keeping track of things so much easier! I am having a really hard time believing I have an almost three year old, but an even harder time thinking about how my son is already 2/3 of a year old. I keep thinking that time can't possibly go faster and then it does.
A little bit about my little man at 8 months.
Approximate stats (we don't go back to the doctor until 9 months): 18 pounds and 28 inches. This still puts him in the 10-25% for weight and 50-75% for height. Kellen is pretty tall and thin, and still doesn't really have the rolls of baby fat that most little ones have. It is pretty funny since Bryan and I were both chunky little ones! He is sort of deceiving though - people think he is a big guy when they first meet him and then once they really take a look they realize he is actually pretty small for his age. Compared to the boys we know about the same age, he is a lot tinier. But he is a sturdy little guy!
Kellen recently became a real crawler. While we never took down the gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, we had to bring back the gate outside of the kitchen this past week. Now that Kel is on the move he likes to leave a path of destruction in his wake. And since he is a typical baby who puts every little thing in his mouth, we thought keeping him confined to one room was probably the best idea!
Kellen sleeps better at night than Ellie did at this age. He consistently sleeps from about 7:30 at night til around 5 in the morning. After a feeding he will usually go back to sleep for another hour or two. Since I feed him at 5 before work Monday-Thursday, I doubt he'll sleep much longer until I ween him. In terms of naps, it cracks me up that my baby that refused to nap in his crib for 5 months now naps no where else. If we are at home, K will take a lovely 1.5 hour morning nap and a 2 hour afternoon nap. When we are out and about he'll catnap in the car but as soon as we stop he wakes up. He also almost never goes back down when we go inside. It is hard not to schedule anything all day, especially with Ellie wanting to play with friends, so thankfully K is pretty cheerful even when he just gets his catnaps. And mommy actually gets some time with both kids napping at the same time if Kel doesn't get his full morning nap so I can't say I am great at getting him down in his crib in the morning!
Finally, Kellen has just started getting in to solids. He has been having purees of fruits, veggies, and beans since about 5.5 months but whenever we gave him small pieces of real solids he would either spit them out or make choking sounds. In the last two to three weeks though, he has had small pieces of fruits, veggies, and meat from our plates in addition to his purees. He has had steak, chicken, ground turkey, berries, watermelon, green beans, bananas, and cheese. He also eats 3 purees a day, and we just added in whole milk yogurt as a snack each afternoon. K has 4.5 ounces of milk in a bottle three times at daycare and I feed him in the morning and give him a bottle or feed him before bed. It is becoming harder to keep up with Kellen's milk intake as work gets busier and more stressful, but I am hoping that between what I have frozen and the fact that he should give up one bottle a day in the next few weeks I'll be able to get him through the next few months. I have nothing against formula but I'm cheap and would really rather not buy any for my little guy!
Kellen plays happily by himself, loves the pool and his baths, is chatty, and loves Maddie, Noelle, and mom and dad. He is truly a joy and I can't wait to see what his personality is like as he gets a little older. But time can slow down anytime now! I want to enjoy my little guy while he is still a baby. It seems like it was just yesterday Ellie was doing all of these things!
