On Wednesday, we took the girls to Storyville to play for a bit before having everyone over for the afternoon and for dinner. It was my first attempt at cooking for 13 (while trying to feed my 5.5 week old every two hours) and it went pretty well despite me slightly underestimating the amount of food Saxton's could consume! Another pot of pasta later, everyone was satisfied!
Since only Bryan's mom had met Kellen already, we took some time for the family to get to know him. And we also got to meet 8 month old Charlotte. She is a sweetheart and it is sad that we live so far away that the cousins only get to see each other once a year or so. Thankfully, Noelle and Rubie loved one another and spent the entire trip playing hard!
Thanksgiving started with us enjoying the very un-Thanksgiving weather. It was almost hot in our fall clothes! We took everyone down to the tire park and got the girls' energy out. I took the opportunity to walk with Kellen and Maddie, anticipating Maddie getting some extra goodies over the visit!
Thanksgiving dinner itself went well, although I'd be fine not cooking all parts of that meal myself ever again. Especially since Bryan and I aren't even fans of turkey and half the fixings that come with the meal! But we had turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, rolls, green been casserole, apple sauce, and I think some other things I am forgetting. And then we had pie and ice cream! After dinner a few of us did our only shopping of the weekend by running over to Old Navy for their big sale. Santa made a few purchases!
The day after Thanksgiving we went down to DC. Apparently we weren't the only ones not shopping since the Natural History museum was packed, and finding reasonable parking was a huge hassle. We only stayed a little while, but Noelle had a blast looking at the dinosaurs and other animals. She and Rubie walked hand and hand through the exhibits I hear. I say I hear because I spent the majority of the time in DC feeding Kellen. Finding a spot that was somewhat private was a bit of an undertaking! But then I got to enjoy a few exhibits too and we all enjoyed the lovely weather.
After the museum, some of Bryan's family visited Arlington Cemetery while we went home to rest and hang out with Bryan's mom, Carl, and grandmom. Everyone was home to eat a big taco dinner and then the 4 brothers journeyed to Costco to look at electronics. If only we had video of that adventure as I'm sure it was crazy! Then it was time to say goodbye to everyone not staying at our house as all but Raymond would be leaving early the next morning. Raymond moved on over to our house Saturday and hung out with us until Monday.
So that was Thanksgiving. It was fun but totally exhausting. We'll miss everyone and hope to see people next year - hopefully in Disney World!
