Rubie Lyn Saxton

On Thursday at around 12:35 pm, my brother and his wife welcomed their first 7 lb, 15 oz bundle of joy, Rubie Lyn Saxton. She is a beautiful baby and we wish them all the best. She, of course, already has the Saxton head of hair and pretty much needs a haircut already. How many newborn babies do you know that can already wear a bow in their hair?

I spoke with Kevin by phone yesterday and he sounded like he had not slept in weeks. Welcome to parenthood! We look forward to joining you in the land of no sleep in a few months!

Hormono

Since Laura has been the one posting so far, I figure that it is time for me to start as well. I start on a most auspicious topic, the rise of the creature known as Hormono.

People have been asking me for the last few weeks how Laura has been feeling. After my usual, she's been fine, the first question is, "Well, hasn't she at least been moody?" Well, the answer to that question, my friends, is: it isn't Laura that is moody, it is Hormono rearing her head. Have you ever had your head bitten off for simple questions? Before now I hadn't, but then came Hormono. Ever felt the sting as a bottle of Tylenol hits the small of your back? Thank you Hormono. Been given the silent treatment for saying that your significant other does NOT look fat? Once again, hand it to Hormono. Been dangled over the back deck by one foot? OK, I made that one up, but you get the point.

Again, this isn't Laura but some hormone induced creature from the lagoon here to visit for the next six months. If you see Hormono, don't despair. She is only a harbinger of good things to come, in the form of little Amoeba. Look out for more updates on her escapades over the next few weeks and months.

St Peter's Reunion

This past Saturday started off with us going to look at a crib we found on Craigslist. Let's just say we weren't impressed since the owner hadn't kept the directions, didn't know the model name or number, it felt like it was going to fall apart, and it had scratches all along the back side. If you know us, you know we are just a little bit picky and uptight, so this clearly did not make us happy. Just to make sure we weren't going crazy, we visited Baby Depot at Burlington afterwards and realized there are cribs out there in our price range that are sturdy (and come with directions and the model name so you can put it together safely and know if it has been recalled). We are going to keep looking at some cribs and gliders (the only furniture we plan on getting for the nursery) over the next few weeks!

After our morning of crib investigation, I had lunch with my college roommates. Sarah is 36 weeks pregnant, and looked great, and Betsy and Lisa were doing well also. It was great to catch up and we definitely need to get together again before another 7 years have passed!

Saturday night we attended a mini-reunion with some of the girls I went to grade school with. It was so fun to see Terry, Tara, Jacqueline, and Angela (and of course Catherine, but we are lucky enough to get to see her a lot more often!) There was definitely some gossiping going on, as we got updates on everyone people have seen (or that our moms have seen) in the past few years. We hope to get together more often now that we have reconnected. Of course B and I had to take one of our signature pictures (B holding the camera out to take our pic) and that is right here:

Here is me with the girls (sorry Jacqueline, we forgot about the cameras until after you had to head out).

Besides Saturday it was a pretty busy but unexciting week. With work and school going on, Bryan and I were only home together for dinner one night during the week. We just have to catch up over the weekends until things settle down at the end of the month. I am still feeling good, but definitely starting to look pregnant. While the people in my department at work know, I am sure those in the other departments are starting to wonder why I am looking so fat these days! In a few more weeks everyone should have it figured out. It was a beautiful week and we enjoyed the temperatures in the 50's and 60's, although the 30's this morning certainly feels crazy cold now. We are ready for spring to hit soon! We hope everyone has a great week.

14 Weeks

Sorry it has been a while since our last post...we weren't really moved to write about anything! We had our 2nd appointment with the midwife today and it was short and sweet. We heard Amoeba's heart beat again (and this time they found it as soon as they started trying which was a relief for a mom-to-be that seems to have the worry gene). Bryan asked Jean whether she thought I would be early based on statistics of first pregnancies, and she started to say no, until she found out that B's bar exam is the week before the baby is due. After hearing that, she laughed, said she would put those days on her calendar as one of the two days Amoeba would decide to come, and sent us home. We are crossing our fingers that the little one stays in there until August!

Besides our appointment, things have been good. I am feeling great, and starting to get a harder and larger tummy. I gained 4 pounds up to this point, which doesn't sound like a lot, but certainly looks it! Bryan has gotten into the swing of the semester and has been busy with school, journal, and his dean's committee search. I had two classes this week for the first time since my Miami days and while it is going to be an exhausting couple of months working full-time, growing Amoeba, and having class two nights a week, it will be worth it to take a semester off classes in either fall or spring. I also quit my part-time job after work last Saturday morning - waking up super early a 6th morning each week just wasn't worth the small amount of money I was getting.

Tomorrow should be a great day - I am having lunch with my college roommates (one of whom is 36 weeks pregnant and hopefully has some excellent advice to give) and then we have a reunion gathering in the evening with the St. Peter's crowd which will be fun. We'll post some pictures and an update of these things next week!
